Not a good day...the first team relinquished their unbeaten record, maybe it was a case of relief that they had achieved their aim of promotion and maybe Kippax felt they had something to prove. On another day...who knows. The reserves lost and look to be going to the wire to know their fate.

Brighouse Old Boys 1

With promotion  already secured with a tense win against Old Headingly on the previous Wednesday Brighouse went to their close rivals Kippax with little to play for except continuing their unblemished record of eighteen straight wins stretching back to last October. However it was not to be and, although having a number of chances in the game, they eventually went down by three goals to one.

The pitch had dried out from the recent deluge and was bare in patches, an uneven surface coupled with a small playing area didn’t suit Brighouse’s expansive passing game, Kippax’s, direct  perhaps but,  utilizing the conditions to their advantage, long ball game, especially in the first half put pressure on the away teams back four of Joe Nelson, Andy Hall, Ian Brock and Luke Johnson, Jason Hibbert in the Brighouse goal coping well with the difficult conditions....read the rest of the report here.

The scene was set in the final match of the season with Brighouse needing  just a draw and Robin Hood requiring the win that would determine who would be staying in Alliance Division 1 next season.

It was always going to be a tough tense encounter and so it proved to be.

The visitors tried to take the early initiative and had the first half chance Tom Carter momentarily breaking free but with fullback Andy Burton bearing down his rushed shot was comfortably saved by ‘keeper Joe Stead. Robin Hood’s pacey forwards were causing early problems for the home team but excellent defending from centre backs Lee Williams and Reece Bray supported by fullbacks Burton and Graeme Tait prevented any real openings.......read the rest of the report here.

Wednesday’s Report

Brighouse Old Boys  1  Old Headingley  0

Brighouse Old Boys gained the points they needed to secure their promotion to the West Yorkshire Premier league with a hard fought tense victory over Old Headingley.

The visitors had certainly come with the intention of spoiling the party having the better of the early exchanges, but the home side despite not being at their most fluent best were working hard as a team and were closing down and pressing in numbers. Jimmy Cummings...read the rest of the report here.

Congratulations.....

....to the reserves for retaining Alliance Division 1 status.

They managed this by beating Robin Hood Reserves 1-0 this afternoon in a match which had its fair share of scraps and scrapes. Robin Hood were certainly up for it and were prepared to fight all the way but a solitary goal did the trick.
